So I guess one question is how many social networks do we need. What is better about this one than the IEEE group in LinkedIn with its 680 members?

Thanks for the question. Linkedin is a very good networking site. Our focus is electrical engineers connecting with each other, so we try to allow one-on-one discussions much easier than Linkedin. We would also like to add more functions to your local IEEE Section web-site, without your web-team extending the extra efforts. If the IEEE Hampton Roads Section uses the link to this discussion section, this can allow for ongoing local member discussions which could be time consuming and costly to add to your local IEEE Section website. We, or you, can start your own discussion for a specific group within our site, or start your own group, etc. Linkedin does offer some of these same features, but one of Linkedin's primary focuses appears to be on employment opportunities. We're hoping this can become a more customized site for local IEEE chapters to use, if they wish. Thanks again for checking in. I'll review Linkedin's site a little more and get back to you about any other differences.
Thanks,
Gabe

NOTES - Photo Importing Instructions

This pertains to your personal photo, Group photos and Events photos.

The photo image will be compressed so that the smallest dimension is sized to 171 pixels and then the larger dimension will be cropped to the center of the photo. For your pictures to show up as you'd like, you'll need to make sure that the center of the photo is what you want to see, or add white space to the sides of your photos to make them square so when they are resized they will fit.

Please use a photo editing program to add white-space so that the photos are square and then import them, while also checking that the overall height or width is 171 pixels or less.

If you don't have a photo editing program, let us know and we'll see if we can get the photos resized for you.
